Below we will address the best hikes, the most epic waterfalls to hike to as well as dog friendly hikes that I’ve explored in my lifetime as an Oregonian that loves to be outdoors.

No matter where you are in Oregon, there are fantastic trails throughout.

Best Hikes Near Portland Oregon

Starting North near Portland, visitors flock to Multnomah Falls for a beautiful view, however, save yourself the discomfort and hike the less crowded, more sight filled trails of the Columbia River Gorge, such as Horsetail Falls, Wiesendanger Falls or Larch Mt. Trail. Within that same region, is the Punch Bowl Falls, of Eagle Creek, a challenging and wet hike worth every minute of effort to reach the waterfall and swimming area just below. Plan this trip for a warmer day, without kids or dogs – Punch Bowl Falls is only for the daring.

Best Hikes Near Mount Hood

Mt. Hood obtains lovely hiking trails, such as Trillium Lake Trail at the base of the mountain, where dogs and families are welcome. For a contrasting geographic sight, Smith Rock State Park in Bend, of central Oregon is a destination of high altitude, showcasing molten rock walls of once basalt lava.

To enjoy a coastal breeze while hiking, go west of Eugene to the coastal town of Florence, but just before arriving there, stop by Sweet Creek Trail for a short and easy hike along a river. Once in Florence, check out Hobbit Trail or Heceta Lighthouse Trail which leads hikers to an elevated viewpoint of the coastline at the base of the local lighthouse. After hiking, visit the neighboring northern beach town of Yachats to enjoy a craft beer at Rogue Brewery, whale watch during migration season and visit the best crystal shops on the Oregon coast.
